Royal Palm at Waipi'o opened back in June of 1988 under the name of "Sunpoint". It was built by Gentry, in Five Phases as a rental property. Gentry sold 52 units starting in 1997, and the other 326 were rental units. In 2000 an Investor purchased the property and renamed it Royal Palm at Waipi'o, they renovated all of the 326 rental units and sold them from 2000 until 2003. In 2004, all 5 phases (378 units) were administratively merged as one. Royal Palm Association also belongs to the neighborhood association of Waipi'o Gentry, and voting district 37.
